About Omaha Beach
On June 6, 1944 D-Day the Allied forces launched Operation Overlord, the largest amphibious invasion in history, on the beaches of Normandy. Omaha Beach, located in the Calvados department of Normandy, was one of the most fiercely contested of the five landing zones. Nearly 10,000 white crosses and Stars of David at the nearby Normandy American Cemetery pay tribute to the fallen heroes of that day. Brimming with history, culture, stunning natural scenery, remembrance sites and great food and drink, Normandy truly has it all — and Omaha Beach remains the emotional heart of any visit to the region.
